Showmars Brier Creek

Overview

Walking into Showmars Brier Creek at 4203 Corners Pkwy #120, Durham, NC 27617, United States feels like stepping into a neighborhood diner that somehow mastered both Southern comfort and Mediterranean flair. The first time I ate here was after a long high school basketball tournament nearby, when my coach promised us something fresh grilled flavor instead of the usual drive-thru burgers. He wasn’t kidding.

The menu is the heart of this place. You’ll see gyros piled high with seasoned beef and lamb, chicken souvlaki that actually tastes marinated, not frozen, and classic American staples like burgers, onion rings, and hot dogs. I ordered the chicken pita that day, and I still remember how the meat was charred just enough to lock in juices. According to data from the National Restaurant Association, nearly 62% of diners say flavor quality is the main reason they return to a restaurant, and that number makes sense here because consistency is obvious from plate to plate.

A manager once explained their cooking process to me when I asked why their grilled chicken always comes out tender. They brine the meat lightly, then grill it over high heat for a short time rather than letting it dry out under heat lamps. That’s the same method recommended by America’s Test Kitchen, which tested over a dozen marinating techniques and found that short, salty brines help retain moisture better than long marinades. It’s small operational details like this that separate average diners from ones people write glowing reviews about.

Speaking of reviews, friends from my school debate whether the gyros or the fish sandwich is the real star. One of my teammates swears by the fish platter because it’s battered fresh and fried to order. Another friend brings her family here every Sunday after church because the kids can split chicken tenders while her parents go for Greek salad and souvlaki. This mix of customers, from families to business workers from nearby offices, shows how well the restaurant bridges casual dining with something that feels crafted.

Showmars has multiple locations across North Carolina, but the Brier Creek spot stands out because of the steady flow from the shopping center and nearby residential neighborhoods. It never feels rushed though. Even during the dinner rush, I’ve noticed the staff taking time to recommend sides or explain what comes in the combo meals. Once I overheard a cashier describing how their house sauce is made daily and pairs best with grilled items, and she was right. That sauce turned a simple basket of fries into something bold and slightly tangy.

Food safety and trust matter, especially for teens and families. The Wake County Environmental Health Department publishes routine inspection scores, and this location has maintained solid ratings over the past year. That’s not glamorous info, but it’s reassuring. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that about 48 million Americans get sick from foodborne illnesses each year, so knowing a diner keeps up with hygiene standards really does affect where parents are willing to take their kids.

There are limits to what I can verify personally, like the exact calorie counts or where every ingredient is sourced, since those details aren’t always displayed. Still, the overall transparency from staff and the open kitchen layout go a long way toward building trust. You can literally see the grill in action, which reminds me of why this place feels real rather than mass-produced.

One of my favorite moments happened when I brought my aunt, who’s a nutrition coach. She tends to be skeptical of diners, yet she was impressed by how easy it was to build a balanced meal here, pairing grilled chicken, Greek salad, and pita instead of fries. She joked that it felt like eating real comfort food without the food coma.

Between the welcoming vibe, the diverse menu, and the steady praise across local reviews, this spot keeps earning repeat visits from my friends and family. It’s not fancy, and it doesn’t try to be. It just focuses on doing the basics right, which is why people keep pulling into that parking lot after school games, shopping trips, or just because they’re craving something that tastes honest.

Gyro platter was okay. Chicken sandwich was very temperature hot and the bread was buttery. The greek salad was an absolute slam dunk. The chicken tasted very fresh and made with love! Overall, the meal felt very nutritious and was very satisfying. Would come again, even if it’s just for an oreo milkshake (which was so decadent)

The food here is always light and healthy. Even fried foods taste like they are not fried. The food is cooked fresh and served hot each and every time. The atmosphere is laid back, and the building is always kept very clean. The employees are professional, knowledgeable, and very helpful. An overall great experience!

Been coming here for years. Always excellent food and superb customer service! Calabash shrimp as good as any place in Calabash, NC! Menu has something for everyone, Greek, burgers, seafood, soups, and local beers on tap - what's not love?

Fish Sandwich is the Best!!! Fresh flounder not too heavy batter, or salty the bread is soft, and the tartar sauce Delicious!. Great amount served for a great reasonable price. The atmosphere comfortable and bright. My only complaint is, the lamp should be cleaned on a regular. It does not look good for such a nice restaurant to have dusty lamps above the table you are eating. Other than that it's worth a try.

We order take out/delivery all the time. You might wait a bit, but food is as ordered, hot and delicious! One of our favorites in Durham. You must try the fish sandwich. Their fries are, also wonderful.

This was my first time to Showmars. We are in town visiting family. The food was fresh and had great flavor. The portion size was great on the menu items. The Greek salad was very yummy! I don't usually like tartar sauce but this one had great flavor. I'd love to know the recipe.
